Place Value
Place value is a way to understand the value of each digit in a number based on its position. Even though a digit might look the same, its position determines how much it's really worth.
For example, in the number 4,582:
- The 4 is in the thousands place → it represents 4,000.
- The 5 is in the hundreds place → it represents 500.
- The 8 is in the tens place → it represents 80.
- The 2 is in the ones place → it represents 2.
So, the total value of the number is:
4,000 + 500 + 80 + 2 = 4,582
