Area Perimeter & Volume
Area, perimeter and volume help us measure the size of shapes and spaces. These are important skills in geometry and real-life problem solving.
📏 Perimeter is the total distance around the edge of a 2D shape. To find perimeter, add up all the sides.
- Rectangle: P = 2 × (length + width)
- Square: P = 4 × side
- Triangle: P = sum of all three sides
📐 Area measures the amount of space a 2D shape covers. It is measured in square units (like cm² or m²).
- Rectangle: A = length × width
- Square: A = side × side
- Triangle: A = ½ × base × height
- Parallelogram: A = base × height
- Circle: A = π × radius²
📦 Volume measures how much space a 3D shape takes up. It is measured in cubic units (like cm³ or m³).
- Cuboid: V = length × width × height
- Cube: V = side³
Tip: Always use the same units when calculating area, perimeter, or volume — and label your answers with the correct unit (cm, cm², cm³).
✅ Knowing how to calculate perimeter, area and volume helps you solve practical problems involving shapes, measurements, and space.
