11+ Ratio & Proportion Online Tests

A ratio compares two or more quantities; proportion is about keeping that comparison constant as the quantities scale up or down. The 11+ leans on this topic heavily because it connects naturally to real situations - recipes, sharing money, mixing paint, comparing prices.

The standard question shares an amount in a given ratio. The reliable method is always the same: add the parts of the ratio to find how many parts there are in total, divide the amount by that total to find one part, then multiply back up. Children who learn this sequence rather than improvising get these marks consistently.

Ratio & Proportion: tips that earn marks

Questions parents ask about Ratio & Proportion

How common are ratio questions in the 11+?

Very. Sharing in a ratio appears on most papers, and proportion is embedded in many word problems that never use the word ratio at all.

What is the unitary method?

Finding the value of one item or one part first, then scaling to the number you need. It is the most dependable approach to nearly every proportion question.

How does ratio connect to fractions?

Closely. A ratio of 2:3 means the parts are two fifths and three fifths of the total. Seeing that link makes both topics considerably easier.
